The short version
- Choose Bright Data if your targets actively block scrapers and you need residential proxies, geographic control and an unlocker at volume.
- Choose SarvCrawl if you are crawling ordinary public sites and documents and want them searchable without building a retrieval stack.
SarvCrawl and Bright Data, side by side
| SarvCrawl | Bright Data | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | Crawl-to-knowledge-base API | Proxy network with scraper APIs, datasets and an unlocker |
| Best for | Content you want to search — web pages and documents together | Targets that block everything else, at scale |
| Output | Markdown, HTML, JSON, links, images | HTML and JSON from scraper APIs; pre-collected datasets |
| JavaScript rendering | Yes, where a page needs it | Yes, through its scraping browser |
| Documents | PDF, Office, EPUB, images and audio; OCR for scans | Not the focus |
| Chunking, embeddings, search | Built in (search on paid plans) | Build it yourself |
| Anti-bot and proxies | Not the focus | Category leader: Web Unlocker and residential proxies |
| Pricing | 1 billion free tokens, no card; paid plans | Usage-based; quote-driven at scale |
| Hosting and licence | Hosted, or self-host: Apache-2.0 with an AGPL-3.0 engine | Hosted |
| Integrations | REST, Node, Python, CLI, n8n, 21 MCP tools | APIs and a native MCP server |
Where they really differ
Bright Data starts from one of the largest residential proxy networks in existence and layers products on it: Web Unlocker, scraper APIs, datasets, an AI builder and an MCP server. If the problem is that a site will not serve you, it is the category leader.
One change worth knowing: since April 2026 it no longer offers mobile proxies to new customers; newcomers are pointed at residential and ISP proxies.
SarvCrawl does not compete on unblocking. It is for public docs, help centres, product sites and documents, and its value is everything after the fetch: clean markdown, heading-aware chunks, embeddings and hybrid search. Buying industrial unblocking for pages that do not fight back is the most common overspend in this category.
Using both
If a few of your sources need serious unblocking, fetch those through Bright Data, crawl everything else with SarvCrawl, and upload any documents or CSV exports you collect so they sit in the same searchable knowledge base.
SarvCrawl vs Bright Data: questions
Is SarvCrawl a Bright Data alternative?
Only for public, unprotected content. For heavily protected targets at scale, Bright Data is the stronger tool and SarvCrawl does not claim otherwise.
Do I need proxies to crawl documentation sites?
Usually not. Most public documentation, marketing sites and government data serve ordinary crawlers. Proxies matter when the target blocks you.
Which is cheaper?
They price different things. Bright Data is usage-based for unblocking and data; SarvCrawl bills tokens for parsing, chunking and embedding, with 1 billion free.
Can SarvCrawl ingest data I fetched elsewhere?
Yes, as files. Upload PDF, Office, EPUB, CSV, image or audio files into a knowledge base and they are parsed, chunked and embedded like anything SarvCrawl crawled itself.
